MS Dhoni Still Out of IPL 2026: Many people thought MS Dhoni would come back in the big match at Wankhede Stadium, but when the team list was announced, his name was missing again. This made fans worried and also confused about his fitness.
Right now, Dhoni has not played even one match this season. Reports say he got a calf injury just before the tournament started and has been recovering since then. Even though there were hopes he would return after two weeks, his break has become longer.

Coach Michael Hussey
To explain the situation, Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey shared an update during the match. He made it clear that Dhoni is getting better but still not fully ready.
He said, “He will play soon, though he is not yet 100 per cent fit. Whenever he returns, he will take up wicketkeeping duties; he is currently preparing fully in the nets. At the moment, however, he is experiencing some difficulty running between the wickets. The fans are waiting eagerly, and we, too, want to see him play. The situation will become clearer over the next two matches,”.
Hussey also said earlier that Dhoni is doing well in practice and slowly improving his fitness, especially his running.
Injury Problem and Possible Return
Dhoni is now 44 years old and dealing with a calf muscle issue. Because of this, he is not able to run properly between the wickets, which is very important in T20 cricket.
There were talks that he might play against Mumbai Indians on April 23, but that did not happen. Now there is hope he could return in the next matches, maybe against Gujarat Titans on April 26 or later in early May.
Even during training, Dhoni has been batting in the nets, but the main focus is still on getting his running fitness back. The team does not want to take any risk and will only play him when he is fully ready.
