A call centre, which duped thousands of US citizens, has been exposed by the Thane crime branch in Ambernath. The call centres were intervened during the night of June 8 and 9. Eventually, it was found that they fooled customers in name of easy loans. The BPO, Rackon enterprise was raided in the Anand Nagar MIDC area of Ambernath.
The call centre workers would ask some callers to pose naked or send nude pictures and videos for providing the loans. But their loans were never approved as the entire process was fake. The call centre would complete data of probable loan applicants with the help of their links in the US.
They categorised the loans as students’ loans, weekend loans or even mid-term loans. Once the call centres fooled the callers by providing their private details about debts and liability, the victims were swayed that these calls were authentic.
This is the second major BPO scam busted by the Thane police. The first BPO fraud busted where 80 people were arrested.
The BPO was running in the area from last four years with callers who were not even HSC passed, were earning Rs 1.5 lakh a month. The place where the BPO was running is owned by a person affiliated with a political party. His role is being ascertained in the scam.
