In a shocking incident, a 29-year-old man was arrested for molesting a young, well-educated woman inside his car while they were on a date at Bandra.

The duo had met through a popular dating app. The accused, R Dedhia, was produced before a holiday court at Bandra on Sunday.

According to the police, Dedhia who hails from Wadala had met the woman on a dating app earlier this month after their profiles matched.

The two exchanged messages. On March 12, Dedhia spoke to the woman on phone. She later told the police that he sounded cultured and well-groomed. Dedhia called her to Chembur on a date.

On March 13, the woman met Dedhia at a resto-bar in Chembur at 10.30 pm. They spoke for some time before Dedhia suggested they visit another pub at Bandra. The woman agreed and they travelled in Dedhia’s sedan.

They reached the pub around 11.30 pm.”Dedhia had a beer and then started getting too close to the woman. She found it uncomfortable and said she wanted to go home,” said a police officer.

Around 1 am on March 14, the duo left the Bandra pub. The woman said she would head home on her own, but Dedhia wouldn’t let her. He insisted on dropping her home in his car and urged her to trust him.

After travelling some distance, Dedhia pulled her close to him and started kissing her forcibly. The woman tried to resist, but he touched her inappropriately and started to lift her clothes. The woman then said she wanted to use a restroom and he should halt the car.

As soon as he halted the vehicle, the woman opened the door and fled. She started running, but Dedhia followed her in his car. Outside St Teresa’s Church, she spotted a policeman on a bike and waved at him to halt.

Spotting her talking to the cop, Dedhia sped away,” the officer said. The policeman heard her out and guided her to Bandra police station where she lodged a complaint.

The police later arrested Dedhia from his residence.
