Nagaland guv RN Ravi to take charge as Meghalaya governor tomorrow

General Secretary of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), Donald Thabah said that apart from sending Governor Tathagata Roy on leave, he should be removed from the post of the Governor of Meghalaya.

Nagaland Governor R N Ravi was on Monday given additional charge of Meghalaya, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.

The press release came straight from the Rashtrapati Bhavan today read that the President of India is pleased to appoint Shri R.N. Ravi, Governor of Nagaland to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya, in addition to his own duties, during the absence on leave of Tathagata Roy.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that the government received official communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs that the Governor of Nagaland has been also assigned the additional charge of Governor of Meghalaya.

When asked about his explanation regarding Centre asking Roy to go on leave, He says that the central government knows better than anyone else and they must have seen the drama that occupies the state”.

The Governor and the MDA government were in conflict, because of the Governor rejecting the recommendation of the state government to impose administrators rule in the KHADC and also the delay in giving his assent to the Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security Act, ordinance.

Reacting to this development, Senior Opposition Congress Leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “We are very delighted that the President has taken cognizance of our anxiousness and suspiciousness on the Government of India”.

“He was very authoritarian and I am happy that a new Governor will be taking charge and will swear in tomorrow,” she added.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), Donald Thabah said that apart from sending Governor Tathagata Roy on leave, he should be removed from the post of the Governor of Meghalaya.

Referring to the Governor’s tweet that those who do not want divisive democracy should go to North Korea, Tabah said: “we want the GOI to remove him from the post of the Governor.”

The KSU General Secretary, however, said that they want to inform and warn the New Governor that the people of Meghalaya are against the CAA and wants ILP and that it would be nice of him to ensure that ILP is implemented, the state exempted from CAA and to give his assent to the ordinance of MRSA.
