India in Women’s World Cup Final: India made history after beating Australia in the Women’s World Cup semifinal. It was a big win for the team and for the fans. Phoebe Litchfield hit her first World Cup century for Australia, but Jemimah Rodrigues played an amazing game for India. Her unbeaten hundred helped India reach the final, where they will face South Africa on November 2.

Jemimah Rodrigues shines

This was Jemimah’s third ODI century and her first ever in the World Cup. The 25-year-old scored a brilliant 127 runs and made it look easy. She stayed strong till the end and helped India chase the target with confidence. On a day when India needed someone to save them, Jemimah did exactly that. She showed why she is such an important player for the team.

While chasing a target of 339, Jemimah and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (who scored 89 from 88 balls) added 167 runs together for the third wicket. Their  partnership helped India reach 341/5 in 48.3 overs the highest successful chase ever in Women’s ODI history.

Jemimah came in early after Smriti Mandhana got out and played calmly, hitting bad balls for runs and showing great energy even when she got tired. She was lucky to be dropped twice, on 82 and 106, but made full use of those chances to lead India past their past knockout losses.

After the match, Jemimah was seen crying for several minutes as she hugged her teammates and family

“All I would say was I didn’t play for my 100. I didn’t play to prove a point at number three,” she said. “I just played to make sure India win. I wanted to see India win at the end and that was my only motivation.”

Naseer Hussain’s Viral Tweet

After India’s big win, an old post by former England captain Naseer Hussain went viral again. Back in 2018, Hussain had shared a photo with Jemimah and wrote, “Remember the name… Jemimah Rodrigues.. did some throw downs with her today .. she’s going to be a star for India.” People online are now praising him for predicting her success so early.

“I always believed in her capabilities,” her father Ivan told The Indian Express. “That David vs Goliath story is so apt — the little David, Jemimah, proved herself under pressure against the mighty Goliath, the Aussies. A lot of hard work has gone into her preparation right from her childhood . It was God’s favor and kindness that this victory came at the right time and against the strongest team,” he added.

“As a coach I have always waited for such a day. I am happy to see Jemi’s progress but I feel the job is still to be done and finished. One more hurdle to cross for the world Cup,” he added.

India prepares for the final

Now India will face South Africa in the final match. This will be the first time these two teams meet in an ODI World Cup final. Both captains, Harmanpreet Kaur and Laura Wolvaardt want to lift the trophy and make history for their countries.

South Africa has played really well in this tournament. They beat England in the first semifinal and have only lost two matches so far. India tho on the other hand, had a tough start before this big win. They lost three matches in a row and also lost an important player, Pratika Rawal, to injury. Shafali Verma also did not play well in the semifinal.

India and South Africa will play in the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday both hoping to win their first title. Only Australia, England and New Zealand have won since 1973.
