In most languages, the word means money bag, which comes from the Latin word ‘bursa,’ from whence the Van der Beurse family name comes.
Midway through the thirteenth century, Venetian financiers commenced trading in government securities. By 1351, the Venetian government had prohibited the dissemination of rumors with the intention of devaluing government funds.
