National Vet Girls ROCK Day 2024 (US): On February 19, National Vet Girls RISE Day is observed. The day recognizes the service of female veterans of the United States military and provides community and national organizations with an opportunity to extend their gratitude.
Additionally, female veterans have the opportunity to commemorate the enduring connections they have forged throughout their military service. It is difficult to successfully transition from military service to civilian society. For this reason, the mission of Vet Girls RISE is to enhance the lives of female veterans and support them.
National Vet Girls ROCK Day History
In 2017, National Vet Rock Day was instituted to honor the lives and contributions of women who have served in the military. Even before women were granted the right to serve in the military, they contributed to conflicts by working as cooks, nurses, and caregivers for the combatants.
The inaugural twenty female members of the Navy Nurse Corps, which was founded by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908, were dubbed “The Sacred Twenty.”
When she joined the American Navy in 1917, Loretta Perfectus Walsh became the first woman to be formally enlisted. Females were granted official authorization to engage in combat and active military responsibilities during the final two years of World War II. 33,000 women volunteered for various positions. As part of the Women’s Air Force Service Program, hundreds of them conducted aircraft tests.
Additionally, they have contributed significantly to the annals of the United States military. Dr. Mary E. Walker was awarded a medal in recognition of her contributions as a surgeon throughout the Civil War.
In 1998, Commander Maureen Farren assumed command of the USS Mount Vernon, becoming the inaugural female to do so. Ranger school graduation in 2016 propelled Captain Kristen Griest to the historic milestone of becoming the first female to command an infantry formation in the Army.
In addition to psychological, physical, and financial challenges, female veterans encounter obstacles when attempting to reintegrate into society following their wartime experiences. A considerable number of women experience MST (military sexual trauma), conditions related to the spine, depression, cardiovascular risk factors, and ocular and skin disorders.
This requires the attention and support of every individual. Support organizations have been established for female veterinarians, and National Vet Girls ROCK Day was observed to raise awareness and provide them with more assistance. There are meetup organizations in various parts of the country that observe the holiday; you are welcome to participate.
