Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who created history at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by clinching a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw final, had to leave a ceremony in Panipat midway due to high fever on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old had fever when he joined the rest of the Indian contingent at Independence Day but he had tested negative for Covid-19 a few days back. At the ceremony in Panipat, Chopra got down from the stage due to fever and was taken to the hospital.

“Neeraj is down with a high fever, has a sore throat, and the fever refuses to subside. But fortunately, he has tested negative for COVID-19. He is currently resting,” said the source on August 14.

The 23-year-old had fever when he joined the rest of the Indian contingent at Independence Day but he had tested negative for Covid-19 a few days back.

Neeraj’s historic golden throw in the Olympics has been listed as one of the 10 magical moments of athletics (track and field) in the Tokyo Olympics by World Athletics.
