India’s Automobile Market Shows Strong Growth
According to ICICI Securities, wholesale vehicle sales in September 2025 beat expectations across all major segments. The demand boost followed a Goods and Services Tax (GST) reduction on 22 September, which helped both retail and wholesale sales.
In the two-wheeler segment, Hero MotoCorp sold 6.87 lakh units, marking an 8% year-on-year rise, driven by strong scooter sales. TVS Motor grew 12% to 5.41 lakh units, including over 31,000 iQube electric scooters. Bajaj Auto sold 5.11 lakh units, a 9% rise helped by a 15% jump in three-wheeler exports. Royal Enfield, owned by Eicher Motors, saw a 43% increase to 1.24 lakh units, beating expectations.

Mahindra & Mahindra grew 10%, Tata Motors jumped 47% to 61,000 units with nearly double EV sales, and Hyundai India rose 10%, supported by a 44% export growth.
Commercial vehicles also recovered. Tata Motors’ CV sales rose 19% to 36,000 units, supported by trucks, Ashok Leyland grew 9%, and Mahindra & Mahindra’s light commercial vehicles rose 18%. Tractor sales did even better, jumping 49% year-on-year, with Mahindra selling around 66,000 units and Escorts 18,000 units. ICICI Securities noted that the overall performance shows “a healthy demand revival across segments led by festive buying and the GST rate cut.”
