New Park Timings in Bhubaneswar: BDA Allows Full-Day Weekend Entry Starting December 13

New Park Timings in Bhubaneswar:Beginning‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ from December 13, 2025, every park under the control of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will run continuously during the weekends without any afternoon break.

According to the changed timetable, the doors will be accessible on Saturdays and Sundays from 5:00 in the morning to 8:30 in the ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌evening.

This decision is a direct response to repeated requests from locals morning walkers, fitness-enthusiasts, families, and regular visitors who wanted more flexible and extended access to green spaces.

For weekdays, the previous schedule remains unchanged for most parks: open in the morning (5:00 AM–11:30 AM) and again in the evening (3:30 PM–8:30 PM).

There is an exception: one of the city’s most popular parks, Indira Gandhi Park (IG Park), will now remain open daily from 5:00 AM to 8:30 PM, even on weekdays.

Why the Change?

The BDA’s move comes after “persistent appeals” from those who use the parks early risers, fitness-groups, families who found the previous schedule restrictive.

With weekends being the most convenient time for many to step out for a morning walk, a jog, family outing or leisure, the uninterrupted daytime access allows flexibility. Whether you want to go for a brisk walk at 7 AM, relax mid-morning, stroll in the afternoon, or hang out in the evening the new timing accommodates all.

Officials from BDA believe this will encourage more outdoor activities, help citizens make better use of the city’s green spaces, and boost the overall recreational experience.

They’ve also asked visitors to keep the parks clean, follow rules, and respect public property, a call for collective civic sense to maintain the environment.

Popular BDA-managed parks include Biju Patnaik Park, APJ Abdul Kalam Park, Madhusudan Das Park, Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Park, Buddha Jayanti Park, in addition to IG Park. These, among others, are part of the roughly 50 major parks under BDA’s jurisdiction.

On an average day, approximately 35,000 people use these parks, a number that could rise with easier access and more flexible hours.

Also, BDA has begun maintenance work: repainting, safety upgrades of play equipment, and updating signage at entrances improving comfort and safety for all visitors.

What to Keep in Mind?

BDA officials have appealed to visitors to maintain cleanliness and abide by park rules this will be crucial if the extended hours are to truly benefit everyone.

BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana said the decision was taken to enhance the recreational experience for city residents. “Keeping the parks open without an afternoon break on weekends will give people more flexibility to enjoy their time. We urge all visitors to maintain cleanliness and follow park rules,” he stated.

Overcrowding, littering, damage to park property or equipment, noise with increased footfall, these can become issues. Though‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ the areas are open for use by the citizens, they are expected to be aware, respectful, and polite, in particular, families, old people, and children.

Quite soon, appropriate signs will be put up at all parks entrances to let people know about the new timings and rules.
