No “WhatsApp” on Reliance Jio Phone

The zero-rupee Jio phone which was recently launched offering lifelong free voice calls bundled with 4G data streaming will not have popular chatting application Whatsapp on it.

The company is preparing to launch it in the second half of August. However, there is sad news as the Jio phone will not have Whatsapp and Facebook as for now. According to Youtuber Technical Guruji, there is no facility to use WhatsApp on Reliance Jio phone as of now, but, YouTube and Facebook apps will be available on the Reliance Jio feature phone.

Reliance Jio zero rupee phone does not support popular messaging app Whatsapp, according to a report by Gadgets 360. WhatsApp has more than 200 million users in India as of February 2017. The phone will come pre-loaded with Jio apps and will also support Facebook and YouTube; however, there is no functionality to support Whatsapp as of now.

The company further could not be ascertained if the handsets will be sold by Reliance Retail or Jio. The phone, targeted at 50 crore feature phone users in the country, will be available for pre-booking from August 24 on payment of a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500.This deposit will be refunded after 36 months on the return of the phone, he said, adding that the price of the phone will be “effective zero”.

Out of the 78 crore phones in India, Ambani said, 50 crores are feature phones that cannot be used for Internet or data usage. Reliance chairman, Mukesh Ambani undoubtedly is one courageous business tycoon but not including Whatsapp is a great move or not, time will decide.
