No winners were identified for the estimated $1.1 billion jackpot in the multistate Mega Millions lottery draw on Tuesday night, making it one of the wealthiest in the game’s history. This raised the payout for the subsequent draw later this week.

The numbers chosen earlier in the evening—8, 24, 30, 45, 61, and the Mega Ball number 12—were not owned by anyone, according to Mega Millions.

The expected prize for the lottery’s upcoming drawing, which is on Friday, has increased to $1.25 billion.

Americans’ Expenditure on Lottery Tickets Revealed: Unveiling the Numbers

Since the last Mega Millions jackpot winner in April, this was the 30th drawing. On a $2 ticket, the winning combination must match all six double-digit numbers exactly.

If there is just one winner on Friday, they can choose to take a lump sum payment of about $625,3 million or have the estimated prize paid out over 30 years.

The chances of winning are extremely slim: there is only a one in 300 million chance that a single Mega Millions lottery ticket would include all the winning numbers.

The only award that has ever eclipsed this jackpot in the history of Mega Millions is a $1.537 billion jackpot that a single ticket holder in South Carolina won in 2018.

However, the winnings on Tuesday paled in comparison to the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot claimed by a single ticket buyer in California in November 2022. It’s official: this is the highest lottery prize sum in American history.
