The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will now deliver rail tickets at your doorstep to encourage passengers to move to the online medium for ticket booking. The passengers can pay through any medium, including cash.
The move was initiated as delivering tickets at the doorstep will facilitate those who book tickets through travel agents, along with encouraging people to switch to the online medium.
IRCTC has introduced pay-on-delivery service, making passengers to book train tickets online and pay at the time of delivery. The pay-on-delivery (PoD) was introduced as one of the payment options for its customers, said a senior IRCTC official.
For availing PoD as a payment option, the customer will have to do a one-time registration. They will also have to tender either Aadhaar or PAN card details to avail this payment option.
The charges of PoD will be Rs 90 plus sales tax for transactions up to Rs 5,000 and Rs 120 plus tax for transactions over Rs 5,000. In case of cancellation, the customer will be liable to pay the cancellation and delivery charges.
