India, Israel ties have always been warm, especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jerusalem last month. With Israel being India’s top defence equipment suppliers, the total bilateral trade between the two democracies stands at $4.52 billion, according to Indian embassy at Tel Aviv.
India and Israel established full diplomatic relations in 1992 and since then the bilateral relationship between the two countries has blossomed at the economic, military, agricultural and political levels. And the bond, only seems to strengthen, as Israel’s elite sniffer and attack dogs have been deployed to beef up the security cover of the Indian prime minister, reported The Telegraph.
India has taken delivery of 30 security dogs to add teeth to PM Modi’s security. “Because of a heightened threat perception, we wanted to beef up the Prime Minister’s security.” a security official, not named in the report, said. “They are part of the Israeli defence forces’ ace canine unit,” he added.
As part of Special Protection Group, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi too would be entitled to the canine cover, as will Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her clan and former Prime Ministers and their families, the daily said.
