Bhubaneswar: Muktikant Biswal, who shot to limelight for embarking on 1500km journey on foot to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been named by Congress as its candidate for the Rourkela assembly constituency in the upcoming elections.

During his journey Biswal had fainted on a highway before reaching Delhi. He was rushed to a hospital in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. He, however, couldn’t PM Modi.

After the party on Monday night released list of candidates for six of the 21 Lok Sabha and 36 of the 147 Assembly seats in Odisha, Congress released second list of candidates for two Lok Sabha and 54 assembly seats late Friday.

Senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das will contest from Kalahandi Lok Sabha constituency while Pradeep Majhi will fight from Nabarangpur seat. Pradeep Kumar Devta will be Congress candidate from Bargarh, and George Tirkey from Sundargarh.

The BJP’ 4th list released on Saturday included party’s national spokesman Dr Sambit Patra, who will contest from the Puri Lok Sabha constituencies. The BJP announced candidates for four more Lok Sabha seats and 22 assembly constituencies. The Congress announced candidates for two more Lok Sabha seats and 54 assembly seats in the state.

The BJP has so far announced the candidates for 15 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats and 121 of the 147 assembly seats while Congress has nominated contestants at eight Lok Sabha seats and 90 assembly seats in Odisha.

The Odisha assembly elections will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections. The elections for Lok Sabha in the state will take place across four phases.
