Odisha doctor operates woman's right leg while wound was in left

From a sweeper giving stitches to a patient to a doctor forgetting his pair of forceps in a patient’s abdomen during surgery, cases of medical apathy have always been horrifying. In the recent case, a woman in Odisha suffered double pain as the doctor allegedly performed a surgery on the woman’s right leg instead of the left one.

As per the reports, a tribal woman named Mitarani Jena of Khabil village in Odisha visited the Anandpur Sub-divisional hospital for treatment of a wound on her left leg. After examining the wound, doctors instructed the medical staff to dress the wound.

However, due to some confusion the staff performed the surgery on the right leg. After the doctor realised about the blunder, he operated on the left leg.

The ordeal of the woman began after the operation as she was unable to walk properly due to surgery on her both legs. The carelessness on part of the doctors left her completely immobile.

Doctors said it will take some days before she can walk properly.

District collector of Keonjar, Ashish Thakre has ordered a probe into the goof up after Mitarani’s husband Trilochan Jena made a complaint to the police officials.
