A motor vehicle inspector in Odisha’s Boudh district has been apprehended on corruption charges, authorities reported on Monday.
The inspector, identified as Golap Chandra Hansdah, was discovered in possession of assets vastly disproportionate to his official income.
Authorities revealed that Hansdah held 44 plots, 1 kg of gold, and other valuables, prompting his arrest. In addition, they uncovered a multi-storeyed building, 2 kg of silver, over Rs 2 lakh in cash, and bank deposits amounting to Rs 1.34 crore, alongside a diary detailing benami transactions.
Hansdah, who joined government service in 1991 with a current monthly salary of Rs 1.08 lakh, is facing a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Of his 44 plots, 43 are in Baripada, with another on the outskirts of Balasore, officials confirmed.
