Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal attended the funeral of army veteran who allegedly committed suicide over One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue.
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’ Brien also reached the place early morning
Grewal’s eldest son Dilawar lit the pyre at around noon in the presence of a large number of people.
The AAP government in Delhi announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of the army veteran. The Haryana government also granted Rs 10 lakhs to the ex-serviceman’s family.
Meanwhile, Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda and many other Congress leaders reached the house of the ex-serviceman in the morning to express their condolences
Earlier, the family of the deceased reached the village around 3 am on Thursday morning, The Hindu reports.
Ram Kishan Grewal was an active participant in the OROP protest held at Jantar Mantar
He committed suicide in Delhi on Wednesday.
He called his son before committing suicide and told him that he has consumed poison. He called his death a sacrifice for jawans and his country.
The suicide dragged the capital into chaos with the detaining and release of Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier, Grewal’s family, who protests on the death, were also detained by the Delhi Police.
