Oscars 2019: Winners, highlights and drama from evening without host

The Oscars have been mired in controversy this year. From celebs getting papped to tucking into their salmon entrées and blubbing their way through speeches, we’ve got all the action covered.

An abundance of drama surrounded the build-up to this year’s Oscars, even before getting around to the nailbiting best-picture finish.

The 91st Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. A number of individual nominees registered breakthroughs for women and people of colour.

In between, Kevin Hart was chosen to host the awards, before the resurfacing of homophobic social-media posts prompted the comic to withdraw. After a period of confusion, it was finally confirmed the awards would be mounted without a host, the first time that’s happened in 30 years.

Well, lets look at the winners who walked away with the shining trophy this year

Best Picture: Green Book

Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron,Roma

Best Actress: Olivia Colman, The Favourite

Best Actor: Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody

Best Foreign Film: Roma (Mexico)

Best Documentary Feature: Free Solo

Best Documentary Short: Period. End Of Sentence

Best Animated Short: Bao

What’s in bag for India?

Academy awards is undoubtedly the biggest night of the year in Hollywood. And this time it brought big to India as well.

Co-produced by Guneet Monga and directed by Rayka Zehtabchi, ‘Period. End of Sentence‘, a film about the deep-rooted stigma attached to menstruation in a rural village in India walked away with the Best Documentary Short award. The 26-minute film is about women in India fighting against the deeply rooted stigma of menstruation.

Another moment that had us on the edge of our seats was when Gaga joined Bradley on stage to perform “Shallow” from their Oscar-nominated movie, A Star Is Born. The song even won an Oscar for Original Song, so it made their performance extra special!

Oh and did we mentioned there was a Wayne’s World moment during the show? Well, there was and it was pretty epic! Mike Myers teamed up with Dana Carvey at the Oscars for a hilarious bit, giving fans the Wayne’s World reunion they always wanted!

Last but not the least, did you see Chris Evans help Regina King narrowly escape a major fall as she tripped over her dress while heading for the Oscars stage? It’s a must-see!
