India is known for its diversity and culture. The Indian festivals are something people wait for all year long. Let’s check what the month of March has stored in for us.

  • International Yoga Festival, Rishikesh– International Yoga festival will be observed from March 1-7, 2019 in the Yoga capital of India Rishikesh. Paramartha Niketan is the starting spot of this Yoga festival. Renowned Yoga teachers will be taking special classes at the festival that will be attended by participants from 30 countries.

 

  • Maha Shivratri– it is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in honour of Lord Shiva. In every lunisolar month of the Hindu calendar, there is Shivratri that occurs on the 13th night/14th day.T he day is celebrated to worship an important deity in Hindu, Lord Shiva. This year Shivratri falls on March 5, 2019.

 

  • International Women’s Day– Every year, women’s day is celebrated on March 8. On this global day, social, economic, political and cultural achievements of women are celebrated. Talks on gender equality also happen on this day.

  • Holika Dahan– This year, Holika Dahan will take place on March 20. It is a ritual of great importance and is celebrated a day before Holi. Often termed as Choti Holi or Holika Deepak, Holika Dahan depicts the death of Holika and magical removal of Prahlad from the fire.

  • Holi- It is considered as the most celebrated festival of India and is celebrated in almost every part of the country. Often termed as the festival of colours, Holi is the festival of uniting with people you consider your enemies. This year the festival will be celebrated on March 21.

  • Parsi New Year- Parsi New Year is celebrated on March 21 and in the same way as Nowruz is celebrated. The Parsi New Year is celebrated by cleaning house, exchanging gifts, wearing new clothes, making donations.

 

  • Lathmar Holi- Holi is celebrated in another unique way called Lathmar Holi. It is generally celebrated by water and colours but in this, there is a tradition of that women uses bamboos on men. With a blend of colour, water and bamboo this festival is enjoyed by everyone.

 

  • Bhai Dooj- This festival is considered as the most significant Hindu festival. The festival of brother and sister strengths their bonding. The Hindu calendar witnesses two Bhai Dooj, the other one is popularly celebrated after two days of Diwali. Bhai Dooj is also known as Bhratri Dwitiya. This festival is celebrated on the second day as the name suggests’ Dwitiya tithi’. The festival will be celebrated on March 22.
