After Prime Minister Narendra Modi kick-started his Uttarakhand visit on Wednesday, he inaugurated a research institute run by spiritual leader Baba Ramdev’s business franchise Patanjali Ayurveda in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Notably, Patanjali Research Institute will be India’s first organisation to conduct clinical trials as per international standards in the field of Ayurveda.

This new research institute claims to have developed a new type of wheat and chili seed that can catalyse the yield up to twice its original pace. The company which has also marketed the seeds as “swadeshi” (home-grown), says that the new wheat and chili seeds can yield up to 28 and 47 quintals per acre, respectively. The institute will also perform research on clinical control trial, drug screening, pharmacognosy, drug discovery, drug standardisation, drug safety, chronic diseases study, and pharmacology.

PM Modi while addressing, stressed on preventive healthcare and also urged people to take a pledge for cleanliness. PM Modi, while feeling fortunate to be a part of the Patanjali family said that he has more faith on Indians than himself. “Our ancestors had toiled hard for innovations”, he added.

Praising Baba Ramdev, who referred PM Modi as ‘Rashtra Rishi’ in his welcome note, Prime Minister Modi said that by promoting yoga, Baba Ramdev is serving the nation. He also congratulated him for popularising Yoga in India.

While appreciating Modi’s efforts, Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, said, “We have a PM who has devoted his entire life for the nation. There is nothing except India that matters to PM.”
