This Pakistani woman’s photo series on ‘dark side’ of forced marriage will leave you traumatized

A Pakistani photographer, Rida Shah has highlighted the ‘darker side’ of forced marriage in a new photo series, aimed at educating people to eradicate the social evil. Shah is a self-taught concept based photo-manipulation artist from Islamabad. She has unveiled the ‘darker truth of society’ through her work.

“In this so called Islamic society of ours, it’s surprising how many false and unfair practices are followed even by most educated families. One of those is forcing your child to marry someone absolutely without their consent,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

Rida uses her talent to highlight the flaws that exist in the society.  Notably, incident of forced marriage are high in Pakistan. It is estimated that 21% of girls are married off before the age of 18, as per NGO, Girls Not Brides.
