PAN Card Update 2026:The Indian government plans to introduce new Permanent Account Number application rules which will require stricter identity verification procedures to combat fraudulent activities beginning on April 1 2026. The most significant change: Aadhaar alone will no longer be sufficient to apply for a PAN card.
The update affects both new applicants who need to apply for PAN details and existing users who want to update or correct their PAN information.
Aadhaar-Only PAN Application Ends
Through the Aadhaar number applicants could obtain a PAN card using a simplified digital process until now. The facility will end its operations after March 31 2026.
The application process will require applicants to provide extra documents which will make it more difficult to obtain approval starting April 1.
What Documents Will Be Required Now?
The new regulations require applicants to present their Aadhaar identification together with one other acceptable identification document which needs to undergo verification.
The mandatory documents needed to proceed with this process include:
- Birth certificate
- Class 10 marksheet
- Passport
- Voter ID
- Driving licence
- Government-issued identity proof or affidavit
The documents will establish date of birth and identity with greater strength which will decrease the need to use one identification document.
PAN Card Update 2026
The government plans to launch new PAN application forms which will replace existing forms.
Existing forms will be rejected starting from April 1 2026. Applicants must ensure that they present their application in the most recent format to prevent their application from being rejected.

The new regulation requires that PAN and Aadhaar information must match exactly without any discrepancies. As announced in the X post by CSC e-Governance services, name (if not matching with Aadhaar) on the PAN card will be removed. The application will be rejected or delayed because of incorrect information or data that does not match.
