PAN Rules Changing from April 1, 2026:The Indian government will implement major changes to the PAN application process which requires Permanent Account Number from April 1, 2026 onward because the government will create stricter document requirements and eliminate the Aadhaar-only application method.
PAN Rules Changing from April 1, 2026
The current system allows people to obtain a PAN card through Aadhaar-based e-KYC which enables them to use their Aadhaar. The facility will cease its operation on March 31 2026. The system will require more than Aadhaar from users who want to apply for or update their PAN card on April 1 2026.
The authorities require applicants to present extra documents in addition to their Aadhaar documents because this represents a new method of verifying their identities.
Mandatory Documents
Applicants must submit government-approved documents to verify their birth date and their identity according to the new regulations. The following documents are acceptable for identification purposes:
- Birth certificate
- Voter ID card
- Passport
- Driving licence
- Class 10 marksheet or certificate
- Affidavit certified by a magistrate
The new documents will require submission together with Aadhaar for all new PAN requests and PAN modifications.

New PAN Forms to Be Introduced
The government is also set to introduce new PAN application forms from April 1, 2026, replacing the existing ones. The older forms will not receive acceptance for any new applications or correction requests.
The proposed structural changes will execute the planned updates which will transform the existing income tax regulations while they implement a complete modernization of the PAN issuance process.
“Have you also received an email asking you to download an e-PAN card?” PIB Fact Check said in an X post. “This email is fake… Do not respond to any emails, links, calls or SMS asking you to share financial and sensitive information,” government cautioned citizens.
The updated system requires all PAN records to match the information stored in Aadhaar. The application process will halt when applicants present names or personal information that does not match their official documents.
Before submitting their applications, applicants must confirm that their Aadhaar records contain correct information which they have recently updated.
The officials announced that the system would gain increased security through its transition from requiring a single document to permitting verification through multiple documents.
Deadline Alert
The deadline for citizens to apply for a PAN card through their Aadhaar starts on March 31, 2026 and ends on that date.
The authorities together with service agencies have requested people to finish their outstanding PAN applications before the deadline because this will help them avoid extra document requirements and processing wait times.
The new changes will require more documents to be submitted but they will ultimately enhance the reliability and security of the PAN system.
