Panic triggers IIT Kanpur after unknown call claimed presence of terrorists in boys’ hostel

Panic triggers IIT Kanpur after unknown call claimed presence of terrorists in boys’ hostel

A hoax call triggered panic in boys’ hostel of IIT Kanpur on late Sunday night after it warned that there were terrorists hiding in the hostel.  The panic has prompted the police to launch a search operation. However, the police informed later on Monday that it was a prank call.

IIT Kanpur’s security cell received an unknown call around 2 am and the caller told the security person that two terrorists were hiding in hall no. 9 and 10 of the boys’ hostel, said CO Kalyaanpur Ajay Kumar who was reported of the incident on Monday.

Following the call, the security personnel informed the institute officials who reported the matter to the Kalyanpur police. The local police and a team of SWAT will all preventive measures were sent to the spot and they launched an immediate investigation on the matter.

After the search operation, nothing suspicious was found in both the halls of the hostel. The police also told that the caller made three calls on Monday at 7 am, 10 am and 12 noon. This time the caller has threatened the security person and said that why did he inform the police about the late night call. The caller identified him with two names, Sunil Yadav and Arvind Tiwari.

As per the CO Kalyanpur, it was a hoax call and the search of the two halls has revealed nothing, only there was a brief panic that was sparked among the hostel inmates. He also said that we are making the best possible efforts to trace the person behind the hoax call.

Earlier, two unknown phone calls were reported that warned to explode a bomb at Shanti Niketan sweet shop in Kidwainagar on March 17.
