During a training session for IPL 2024, Dhoni demonstrated a gesture that caught the attention of fans worldwide. The new sticker on Dhoni’s bat bears the name Prime Sports in honor of his childhood friend, Paramjit Singh, the owner of Prime Sports. The heartwarming tribute was a nod to Prime Sports’ shared history, which began as a small store in Ranchi more than 20 years ago.

According to the movie “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story,” Paramjit Singh, affectionately known as Chhotu Bhaiya to Dhoni, played an important role in the cricketer’s journey. Singh had been a former cricketer himself and operated a sports supply store in Ranchi. Even before Dhoni made his mark in the Ranji Trophy, Singh recognized Dhoni’s talent and facilitated his first sports sponsorship.
To ensure Dhoni’s success, Singh provided unconditional support and friendship. He travelled to Jalandhar for six months to secure a bat sponsorship for his friend, who was rapidly rising in the cricketing world at the time. Singh chose to watch the matches from his small store in Ranchi rather than the stadium, despite Dhoni’s meteoric rise to fame.
As a testament to his enduring friendship with Dhoni, Paramjit Singh continues to reside in Ranchi today, managing his sports supply store. The entire Indian team also signed a bat in his store in addition to Dhoni’s signature, signifying the strong friendship between friends who have accomplished so much together from modest beginnings to the pinnacles of success.
