According to the report, the documents were made public as the trial began this week. Notably, the US Federal Trade Commission opposes the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft and Xbox. As previously stated, Microsoft will defend its multibillion-dollar acquisition of Activision Blizzard in court against the FTC. Notably, the legal battle between the two parties began in December 2022, when the FTC declared its intention to block the Microsoft-Activision merger. A federal court in California granted the FTC’s request for a temporary restraining order, thereby temporarily preventing the trade.

Microsoft is contesting the order, while the FTC is attempting to delay the acquisition until it examines the transaction’s compliance with U.S. antitrust law. Should the merger be finalised? The documents released by Microsoft cast light on the 10-year commitment with Sony regarding the release of Call of Duty on the PlayStation platform. Notably, Activision Blizzard is the company responsible for the Call of Duty series.

Microsoft anticipates the release of the next-generation PlayStation 6 and Xbox consoles in 2028. As a result, the company will ensure that Call of Duty console titles are available on PlayStation at the same rate as Microsoft’s Xbox platform. Jim Ryan, president and chief executive officer of Sony, has stated that if the Microsoft-Activision merger goes through, Sony cannot share information about the next-generation PlayStation with Activision.

According to Ryan, the company cannot risk disclosing the information to a studio belonging to a direct competitor. If the Microsoft Activision Blizzard Acquisition is finalised.
