Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his Uttarakhand visit on Wednesday. The PM visited Kedarnath temple in the morning and paid obeisance at the sacred Himalayan shrine. The entrances of the Kedarnath shrine were thrown open after a six-month-long break.

The PM’s visit is also important as he is the first PM to visit the temple on its opening day.

The PM will inaugurate Ayurveda and Yoga research center in Haridwar later in the day. He was received by Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat at the airport today.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rawat flew to Kedarnath to examine the arrangements ahead of the PM’s visit. Together with state Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, he visited the medical centers to see if it is fully equipped. He also took a round of lodging and other facilities meant for devotees.

The CM warned officials of severe action if anything was found lacking. The CM also told them to make sure that whoever comes to the shrine goes back with good memories.
