Prajwal Revanna ‘sex scandal’ case: Deve Gowda's grandson suspended by JD(S); SIT probe on

On Tuesday, the Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka suspended Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna and issued him a show-cause notice in response to allegations of sexual abuse made against him by several women. In a core committee meeting, the Janata Dal (Secular) decided to suspend Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda.

Following complaints from his former housekeeper, Prajwal Revanna was booked on April 28 for alleged sexual harassment. Under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, the case has been registered on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation, and outrage of womanhood.

HD Kumaraswamy, the state JD(S) president, attended the meeting of the core committee.

“We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We have decided to recommend our party’s national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed,” said JD(S) core committee president GT Devegowda at a press conference.

Prajwal Revanna, the nephew of the former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, will remain suspended pending the outcome of the SIT investigation.

According to the complaint, both Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna sexually assaulted her. While his wife was not at home, Revanna touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her.

Investigations have begun by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh and including DG CID Suman D Pennekar and IPS officer Seema Latkar.

Bharatiya Janata Party-JD(S) alliance candidate Prajwal Revanna is running for the Lok Sabha seat of Hassan in Karnataka, where the voting took place on April 26.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognizance of the Prajwal Revanna case and has asked the Karnataka director general of police to submit a detailed report within three days.

Several explicit video clips allegedly featuring Prajwal Revanna have recently circulated in Hassan.
