Pune Mula-Mutha Riverfront: Pune is about to witness a transformational moment in its urban landscape as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) prepares to open a 1.5-kilometre stretch of the Mula-Mutha Riverfront Development (RFD) project to the public on February 15, 2026, a date that coincides with the civic body’s Foundation Day celebrations.
Pune Mula-Mutha Riverfront
The riverfront stretch, developed between Sangamwadi and Bund Garden, has now been completed and will soon be thrown open for public use. Spanning just over a kilometre and a half along the scenic banks of the Mula-Mutha, this paved stretch includes walking paths, cycling tracks, landscaped public spaces, seating facilities and recreational zones.
“The 90 percent of the work on the stretch from Sangamwadi to Bundgarden is complete. Of the 3.7-km stretch, the development work on a 1.5-km section is finished,” said Prashant Waghmare, city engineer, PMC.
Designed to promote healthier lifestyles, the area is set to become a favorite morning and evening destination for Pune’s residents who enjoy walking, jogging, cycling or simply taking in views of the water. This stretch will be accessible to citizens twice a day from 6 am to 9 am in the morning and from 5 pm to 8 pm in the evening.
Project Divided Into Three Phases
The PMC has divided the riverfront development into three phases:
- Sangamwadi to Bund Garden: 3.7 km (first stretch)
- Bund Garden to Mundhwa: 5.5 km
- Aundh to Balewadi: 8.1 km
The civic body aims to complete the 5-km stretch from Sangamwadi to Kalyani Nagar by the end of March 2026.

Larger Vision
The 1.5 kilometer section functions as a major achievement which belongs to a larger project. The complete Pune Riverfront project extends approximately 44 kilometers along the Mula River and Mutha River and Mula-Mutha River system through multiple development phases.
The first phase between Sangamwadi and Bund Garden extends 3.7 kilometers and 90 percent of the construction work has been finished. The PMC plans to extend its riverfront development project from Kalyani Nagar to additional areas of development which will continue until March 2026.
Pune Mula-Mutha Riverfront: What’s Next?
The Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram with Additional Municipal Commissioners Prithviraj BP Pavneet Kaur Omprakash Divte and City Engineer Prashant Waghmare inspected the completed stretch on January 26 and conducted a tree plantation drive to demonstrate their ecological commitment to the project.
The 1.5 kilometer stretch will open to the public as its first step. PMC intends to finish approximately 5 kilometers of riverfront development work between Sangamwadi and Kalyani Nagar before March 2026. The city will develop an uninterrupted accessible riverside pathway which will increase Pune’s status as a desirable lively city.
