Punjab: Amarinder Singh takes oath as CM; Sidhu, Manpreet cabinet ministers

Captain Amarinder Singh sworn-in as Punjab chief minister on Thursday after the Congress party’s clear-cut win in the Assembly elections held last month. This is Amarinder’s second stint as chief minister.

Along with Singh, eight other cabinet ministers also took the oath. Amarinder was the Congress party’s projected chief ministerial candidate. He won the Patiala seat in the Assembly elections.

The 75-yaer-old former royal has been chiefly accredited for the party’s victory in Punjab. It got a quite comfortable victory with winning 77 of 117 seats.

Apart from Amarinder, cabinet ministers Navjot Singh Sidhu, Manpreet Badal, Brahm Mohindra, Charanjit Channi, Rana Gurjit and Tripat Bajwa; Aruna Choudhary and Razia Sultana also sworn in as ministers of state.

Along with congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was among the top Congress leaders who attended the swearing-in ceremony.
