Puri Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Puri Lok Sabha Elections 2024: There are several Vidhan Sabha seats in Puri Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha, which has a substantial population.

It has been a stronghold for both the Congress and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), reflecting the region’s diverse political landscape.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJD candidate Pinaki Mishra won the seat with a substantial vote count of 538,321, reaffirming the party’s dominance.

It’s noteworthy that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sambit Patra came in second with 526,607 votes, indicating the BJP’s strong opposition in the election.

The BJD won the 2014 Lok Sabha election with 523,161 votes, maintaining its grip on the constituency.

Despite strong competition between the two major parties in the region, the Congress candidate, Suchitra Mohanty, secured second place with 289,800 votes.

In Puri Lok Sabha constituency, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to replace long-standing MP Pinaki Misra with former Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik.

It marks a significant shift in the party’s strategy and candidate selection process after Misra served three consecutive terms since 1998.

Arup Patnaik’s candidacy could reshape the dynamics of the Puri election.

Electors may benefit from his experience as a former police commissioner and public servant.

While Sambit Patra of the BJP remains a formidable opponent, he closely contested the previous election.

It is clear from Patra’s continued presence in the electoral fray that the BJP is determined to challenge the BJD’s stronghold in the district.

Congress candidate Jay Narayan Patnaik enters the race to carve out a space in a constituency traditionally dominated by the BJD.

In Puri, the upcoming election promises to be closely watched, with three main contenders vying for the electorate’s support.

Numerous factors will influence the outcome, such as the candidates’ appeal, campaign strategies, and local issues.

It will be interesting to see how voters respond to the new lineup of candidates on election day, given the margin of victory in the previous election.
