Rahul Gandhi launches ‘Guarantees Cards’ for farmer, woman and youth in Odisha; All you need to know

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi distributes "Guarantees Cards" in Odisha

While addressing a public meeting on Wednesday, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi launched the “Guarantee Card” for every youth, farmer and woman listing promises which the Congress government will fulfill once they are risen to power. He distributed the symbolic guarantee cards.

According to a series of tweets shared by President of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, Niranjan Patnaik, for each category of farmers, women and youth separate forms have been given out.

The following promises have been made in the listed categories.

Guarantee Card to women

1. Financial assistance for higher education and marriage of girl child.
2. Water connection to every household
3. Every Panchayat will have a dedicated women officer to deal with violence against women

Guarantee Card to farmers

1. Farm Loan waiver on the first day of government formation.
2. MSP for paddy (Rs 2600) & MSP with Bonus for all pulses.
3. Financial Assistance for 5 continuous years.

Guarantee Card to youth

1. Minimum Income Guarantee for the poor.
2. Job to one member of every needy family – Government or Non-Government
3. Contractual employees to be made permanent.

At the event, Rahul Gandhi also felicitated Krishna Sahu, a social activist for having cremated more than 1,000 unclaimed or abandoned bodies.

This was Rahul Gandhi’s third visit to Rourkela since 2007. He had earlier visited Rourkela in July 2007 and in April 2009.

On 28 January, while speaking at Kisan Rally in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had announced, that “In 2019 Congress-led government” will provide “Minimum Income Guarantee”. He had said, “Every poor of the country is going to get Minimum income in his bank account. No one in India will remain without food, no one will remain poor.”

In the run-up to the elections of the five states in November-December 2018, the Congress President Rahul Gandhi had said that he would change the Chief Minister if they don’t waive off farmer loans in ten days after the coming of the results. Following wins in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan loans were waived off soon after the election results were announced.
