Rahul Gandhi Student Justice Fight: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that the fight for students will go on after he was removed from a Congress-led protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home at Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. The protest was held over the police action against students and Opposition leaders. After the sit-in was stopped, Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav and several other leaders.
Soon after being taken away, Rahul Gandhi posted on X and said, “Modi Ji, try every pressure, exert all your might – this fight for justice for students will now not stop or be halted,”. He also shared photos of the police action. The Congress leaders had marched to the Prime Minister’s residence to protest what happened to students during the earlier CJP march to Parliament. Police stopped them near the start of Lok Kalyan Marg, and the leaders then sat there in protest before being taken into custody.

Detentions and Sharp Political Fight
After the detention, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was taken to Mandir Marg police station. Rahul Gandhi was taken to Chhatrasal Stadium. Other Opposition MPs were sent to Kingsway. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi also reached Mandir Marg Police Station soon after the detentions began.
The Congress said the protest was needed because the government had not taken responsibility for the police action against the student march. The party accused the Centre of ignoring the issue even after several people were hurt during the protest. Rahul Gandhi said the government could not keep avoiding answers. In one post he wrote, “PM Modi believes he can get away without answers, without consequences. He cannot. Not this time,”.
He also said the Congress had gone to the Prime Minister’s house to ask for answers over the treatment of students. In another post, he wrote, “We have marched to PM Modi’s house to demand answers from him for the brutalities against young students yesterday. The Government doesn’t want to take any accountability [n]or does it want to have a debate on it in Parliament. PM and HM must resign for destroying the future of India’s youth,”.
Priyanka, AAP and Government Reaction
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also spoke strongly while being detained. She said, “They are cowards. They are scared. We are not scared of them. They are scared of us,”. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also backed the Congress protest and said the party was fighting for students’ justice.

He said, “It is unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were detained. We are all fighting for the cause of the students of this country. We want justice. We want this to be discussed in the Parliament… More than 100 MPs are here. No one is afraid of being arrested… This movement will continue till justice is given,”.
The government side said it was ready for a debate in Parliament. Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh met Rahul Gandhi after the march was stopped near the PM’s residence. He reportedly said the government was open to discussing the issue in Parliament on Wednesday. But the Congress did not agree to stop the protest. It kept asking for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation first. The party also wanted an apology from Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah over the police action. Singh later said the talks failed because Gandhi added a new demand for the Education Minister’s resignation. The Congress said it would continue the pressure until justice is done for students.
