Duplicate entries of voters in the list continue to be a bigger challenge for the concerned authorities in poll-bound state Rajasthan. As per recent media reports around 25000 duplicate names have been found by the authorities in Rajasthan capital Jaipur. In the meanwhile, authorities are erasing the duplicate names from the voter list.

“25000 duplicate listings in the voter list and the process of deleting these duplicate names from the voter list is underway,” said Jaipur District Collector Siddharth Mahajan.

The issue caught up the heat when the Indian National Congress raised the issue in August. A Congress met with the election commission of Rajasthan and submitted a Memorandum of concern over fake and duplicate voters.

The delegation was led by senior Congress leader and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, and state PCC chief Sachin Pilot. Congress alleged of around 42 lakhs of duplicate voters in state electoral roll and urged the state election commission to remove all the discrepancies from the list.

Congress has also alleged that around 70 lakh new voters have also been added to the list between 2013 to 2018. Assembly elections in Rajasthan are due later this year. In a recent survey conducted by ABP news-CVoter in Rajasthan shows a positive sign for the party.
