In a highly shocking incident, a young man hanged himself to death after he failed to save his two-month-pregnant girlfriend from getting raped by five men in front of him. The nerve-chilling incident happened in Rajasthan’s Banswara district in the intervening night between July 13 and 14.
According to police, the heinous crime happened when the girl was going from Banswara town to her village with her boyfriend on a bike at around 10PM on July 13. Three of the accused — Sunil, Vikas and Jitendra — stopped the couple and attacked the boyfriend with swords and iron rods. The trio snatched his mobile phone and forced him to leave the spot.
Three men, all drunk, then took the girl to an isolated spot close to the city and gang-raped her. The trio then took her to Sunil’s village, where they called two more of their friends — Naresh and Vijay — who also raped her.
The ferocity of the sexual assault was such that girl’s fetus could not survive and she had to terminate the baby. On this, the boyfriend committed suicide by hanging from a tree within a few hours of the incident as he could not save her from the criminals.
The rape survivor did not disclose the incident to anyone but following her boyfriend’s death, police officials acknowledged the entire matter and eve arrest one of the suspects – Jitendra.
An investigation was initiated following which the officials arrested all the culprits. A case of gang-rape, abduction, abetment to suicide under SC/ST Act was registered.
