Gujarat-cadre IPS officer and former CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana on Tuesday appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner.
Asthana, a former CBI special director, is 1984-batch Indian Police Service officer of Gujarat cadre.
The police officer has served in various capacities in Gujarat Police apart from serving in various ranks of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The senior IPS officer of the 1984 batch was about to retire. DG ITBP SS Deswal will hold an additional charge of DG BSF.
