Muslims around the world eagerly wait for Ramzan, also known as Ramadan. During Ramzan, Muslims did not eat food or drink water from dawn to dusk. Ramadan fasting is designed to help teach Muslims self-discipline and self-restraint.

Muslims are subject to certain restrictions during the holy month. Roza is one of the five pillars of Islam.

Here are some certain things which are permitted and not allowed for Muslims during Ramzan:

Things allowed during Ramadan:

  • Muslims can eat before sunrise and after sunset.
  • The pre-dawn meal is called sehri and evening meal iftar.
  • If a person is sick, he / she can skip fasting. He / she can compensate by fasting when recovering.
  • Those who travel long distances can skip fasting. But they will have to observe quickly in the future.
  • During Ramadan, pregnant women can quit fasting. She can make up for the missing fast when she is healthy.

Things you should not do During Ramzan:

  • Food and water are not allowed between sehri and iftar
  • No sexual intercourse during fasting
  • Smoking and drinking are still prohibited
  • Avoid toothpaste when fasting
  • All evil thoughts and actions that may harm others are prohibited

According to the Islamic calendar, a new month begins upon the sighting of a crescent moon on the 29th day of the ongoing month.

If the moon is not seen, the month ends 30 days and a new month begins the next day. In India, Muslims will observe Shabaan29 on April 24. If you see the moon on April 24, then Ramzan in India will start on April 25. However, if the moon is not visible, Muslims will start Ramzan fast from April 26.
