Rashmirathi is one of the classics of modern Hindi Literature. Most of our understanding of Mahabharata stems from B R Chopra’s television adaptation of Mahabharata, which is often described as a limited version of the epic. Over the years, innumerable people have written the Mahabharata from the perspective of its many characters. Rashmirathi is one such work of art by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar where Mahabharata is documented from the standpoint of one of its protagonists, Karna.
This particular recitation is based on Tritya Sarg of Rashmirathi which is called ‘Krishna ki Chetavani’. It is considered to be one of the most poignant moments of Mahabharata where Krishna goes to wave a white flag to avoid the war but Duryodhan’s arrogance made him realise that war is an inevitable conclusion.
