Red Fort Independence Day 2026: New Delhi is gearing up for the 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to lead the national events from the historic Red Fort. This time around the ceremony will also be celebrating the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. The national song is planned to be rendered in full during the celebrations.
For people planning to attend the event at the Red Fort, however, security arrangements are expected to be strict. Authorities have issued detailed instructions for attendees, including a long list of items that cannot be carried into the seating enclosures.

Independence Day Red Fort Entry: What Should You Carry?
Visitors are supposed to bring the same government-issued ID document that was used when booking the ticket because security personnel might check it once you’re at the venue.
Kids who are above five years of age will need proof of Aadhaar card and they also have to take an additional or separate ticket as per the attendee guidelines that were reported. Visitors should also remain cooperative with security staff, and simply follow the on-site instructions given at the venue.
The ticket itself is non-transferable, so attendees should ensure that their identity details match their booking information.

Getting to the Red Fort will require advance planning because extensive traffic restrictions will be in place across central Delhi.
The Delhi Metro will begin services at 4 AM on August 15 to facilitate the movement of special guests, invitees and members of the public attending the Independence Day ceremony.

Delhi Traffic Restrictions on August 15
Delhi Traffic Police has announced extensive restrictions around the Red Fort and adjoining areas for the Independence Day celebrations.
Several roads will remain closed or restricted to general traffic during the morning hours, while buses and commercial vehicles will also face diversions and restrictions. Commuters have been advised to plan alternative routes and allow additional travel time.
Security preparations have been intensified ahead of the national ceremony. Delhi Police has also undertaken a cybersecurity audit of around 1,000 CCTV cameras installed in and around the Red Fort area as part of preparations for the event.
What Is Special About Independence Day 2026?
The 2026 celebrations carry additional significance as India observes its 80th Independence Day. According to the Press Information Bureau, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lead the celebrations at the Red Fort, with about 5,000 special guests invited for that occasion. The entire programme will focus on India’s youth quite prominently and also on the theme of Yuva Shakti.
Another noteworthy part is that Vande Mataram will be fully rendered during the Red Fort ceremony, so it becomes a major inclusion within this year’s programme.
