On the occasion of Republic Day 2020, a total of 1040 medals and awards will be awarded to police personnel from all across the country.
The medals and awards belong to different categories and would be distributed at the official function of the parade on January 26.
This also includes a total of 286 gallantry awards. Others include 4 President’s Police Medal for gallantry, 93 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services and 657 Police Medals for Meritorious Services.
The highest number of President’s Police Medal for Gallantry and Police Medal for Gallantry have been bagged by the jawans in Jammu and Kashmir, most of which are CRPF personnel.

According to the website of the government of India, the gallantry awards are announced twice in a year – first on the occasion of the Republic Day and then on the occasion of the Independence Day.
These awards are awarded in the order of precedence which is the Param Vir Chakra, the Ashoka Chakra, the Mahavir Chakra, the Kirti Chakra, the Vir Chakra, and the Shaurya Chakra.
