The Indian rupee opened 0.48% lower at 76.49 against the greenback as crude surged. Crude is trading above the $115-a-barrel mark after Russia said no agreements were reached in Ukraine negotiations.
Also, reports suggesting that the European Union may be edging closer to a ban on Russian crude imports fueled the price rally. A weaker Indian equity market, too, weighed on the domestic currency.
