Sahara India Refund 2025: How to Claim Your Money Through Govt’s CRCS Online Portal

Sahara India Refund 2025: You may have heard about the massive deposit-fraud allegations against Sahara Group’s cooperative societies. For years, many investors entrusted their savings to Sahara’s cooperative arms (like Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., Saharayan Universal Multipurpose Society Ltd., Hamara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd. and Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd.). But due to irregularities, the group was accused of running schemes akin to a Ponzi-operation, which left many depositors unable to redeem their money.

Over time, investigations intensified including seizures of assets and properties linked to the group. As a result, many depositor-investments remained “stuck,” with legitimate investors waiting for refunds.

That’s why the government eventually stepped in launching a dedicated portal to help genuine depositors claim their stuck money back.

But the process has been slow and staggered. So yes, for many people, the money is still “stuck”.

What is the Refund Portal?

The Portal’s Basics

The dedicated site for claims is known as the CRCS‑Sahara Refund Portal, accessible at mocrefund.crcs.gov.in.

Sahara India Refund 2025

The portal was launched on 18 July 2023 by the government, following a directive from the Supreme Court of India, which ordered transfer of funds (₹5,000 crore from the “Sahara-SEBI Refund Account”) to a central authority (Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies CRCS) for disbursal to legitimate depositors.

Sahara India Refund 2025: Who is Eligible?

If you invested with any of those four societies, you may be eligible. To file a claim, you’ll need:

  • Membership number and deposit account number.
  • Aadhaar-linked mobile number and Aadhaar-seeded Bank Account (for secure refund).
  • Deposit certificate / passbook as proof of deposit.
  • PAN card (only mandatory if your claim amount is ₹50,000 or above).

What has the Government Paid So Far And What’s Still Pending?

As of 28 January 2025, the government disbursed ₹2,025.75 crore to around 11.61 lakh depositors of Sahara cooperatives.

By 11 December 2024, around ₹1,441 crore was already released to 9,11,043 verified depositors.

The refunds at least for now are being disbursed only up to ₹50,000 per verified depositor.

Still that covers only a fraction of all claims. Many depositors are waiting, or have had to re-submit their claims due to “deficiencies” (missing or mismatched documents, Aadhaar-bank-linking issues etc.).

So yes, a large chunk of money remains unreturned/unclaimed, but the refund mechanism is ongoing.

How You Can Try Getting Money Back?

If you or someone you know invested in Sahara cooperatives and never got the money back, follow these steps:

1. Visit the official portal: go to https://mocrefund.crcs.gov.in.

2.‍‌‍‍‌ Register / log in: Just give your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, membership number, deposit account number. OTP verification will be necessary.

3. Upload the necessary documents: deposit certificate or passbook, PAN (if the claim is more than ₹ 50,000), Aadhaar -bank-link proof, etc.

4. Submit the claim: After verification, you will get an acknowledgement number. Portal use it to track the status.

5. Inter bank account: In the case of a claim bank account seeded with Aadhaar is credited with the refund (generally within about 45 days of the claim submission, subject to the availability of the fund).

6. In case of a deficiency: A “re-submission portal” has been provided by the government (15 Nov 2023) for claimants to correct errors and ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌re-apply.

If you invested in Sahara and never got your money back, yes, there’s hope. The government-created portal offers a real, verifiable path to claim your money back. The fact that crores of rupees have already been refunded to over a million depositors proves it.

If you want to try, act now: gather your documents (passbook, deposit certificates, Aadhaar-bank-link proof, membership number), check that your Aadhaar is properly seeded, and apply on the portal. If earlier you had submitted but got “deficiency,” use the re-submission option.
