Sajid Khan steps down as Housefull 4 director, Akshay Kumar cancels shoot

As the allegations against filmmaker Sajid Khan pile up, he has stepped down from being the director of the fourth installment of Housefull. Actor Akshay Kumar who has starred in all Housefull films has asked to cancel the shoot of Housefull as the film also stars Nana Patekar.

Taking a strong stand against sexual harassment and violation, and diving into the #MeToo debate, Twinkle Khanna shared a strong Twitter post a few minutes back. She asked husband Akshay Kumar, the lead hero of the Housefull franchise, and rest of the team to take a firm stand.

Her statement comes in the wake of actress Tanushree Dutta and Assistant Director Saloni Chopra’s allegations against Housefull actor, Nana Patekar and director, Sajid Khan.

And it seems Akshay has taken these allegations against Sajid and Nana seriously. He has taken stock of the situation and made his stand clear. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Akshay has cancelled the shoot of Housefull 4. A source close to the movie told Hindustan Times, “Akshay is known to be a disciplinarian and has never cancelled a shoot in his 28 year- long career. This is the first time that he has decided to cancel a shoot, perhaps because the #metoo movement just cannot be ignored. The allegations made against Sajid Khan and Nana Patekar are both serious and grave in nature.”

Meanwhile, Akshay has also released a statement, some time ago. It reads, “I’ve just landed in the country last night and reading all the news has been very disturbing. I’ve requested the producers of Housefull 4 to cancel the shoot until further investigation. This is something that requires stringent action. I will not work with any proven offenders and all those who have been subjugated to harassment should be heard and given the justice they deserve.
