SBI Discontinues mCASH:Banking customers of the State Bank of India (SBI) should prepare for some noteworthy changes: the mCASH service that is widely used for sending or receiving money through a mobile number or an email without the need to register a beneficiary is no longer going to be available. From 30 November 2025, mCASH will be dropped from OnlineSBI or YONO Lite. In brief, from the next day onward, it will not be possible to use this service.
Reason for the Discontinuation of mCASH by SBI
The reason behind the decision of the State Bank of India is that the company wants to modernize and make transactions more secure. The bank states that the mCASH service is based on an “outdated digital infrastructure” and hence it is far from their idea of a quicker, safer, and more efficient way of making payments.
The bank urges their clients in the directive to choose more up-to-date and popular payment methods for their transactions such as:
- UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
- IMPS (Immediate Payment Service)
- NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer)
- RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement)
These means of payments have been around for a while; they are very secure, and they also provide greater convenience for any kind of money transfers.

SBI Discontinues mCASH: How This Can Effect You?
1. In case you have any mCASH links that have been sent or are waiting to be claimed, it is necessary that you complete these operations prior to 30 November 2025.
A few days after the mentioned date, the links will be useless, and mCASH will also be unavailable for new transactions.
2. The State Bank of India has pointed out that shutting down mCASH would not have an impact on the amount of money that one can find in the accounts. Putting the money aside, the only thing that is different is that one cannot go through mCASH to complete a claim.
It is imperative that you do not forget to retrieve the amounts that might be waiting for you beforehand.
3. State Bank of India is persuading its clients to start using UPI, IMPS, NEFT, or RTGS in December 2025 and later.
What about UPI? The easiest solution would be to utilize the BHIM SBI Pay app provided by SBI. The procedure could not be more simple: open the app → ‘Pay’ → select among VPA, Account + IFSC, or QR → key in UPI PIN → verify.
What Should You Do?
1. Analyze your recent transactions. In case mCASH was used for a money sending or receiving process, ensure that everything is claimed or settled by the end of the month.
2. If you still have not done so, set up BHIM SBI Pay or another UPI app of your preference. Knowing the app before the situation comes, in which you must use it, is the best thing you can do.
3. If you have ever refused to register the bank accounts of the people you send money to because of the convenience of mCASH, then now is a great opportunity to add those accounts you use regularly for sending money.
4. Think through the usage of NEFT and RTGS when it comes to bigger transfers, as they are the most trustworthy methods for large sums.
