How the Payment Schedule Works?
Most people who receive retirement, disability, or survivors benefits will see their payments come on one of three Wednesdays in the month. The SSA divides beneficiaries into groups based on birth date:
- January 14, 2026: For people born on the 1st through the 10th of any month.
- January 21, 2026: For those born on the 11th through the 20th.
- January 28, 2026: For individuals born on the 21st through the 31st.

Social Security Payments in Texas: Special Early Payment Dates
There are a few important exceptions to the standard Wednesday pattern:
January 2, 2026: Some beneficiaries will receive their checks early. This includes people who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, and those receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
December 31, 2025: Because New Year’s Day (January 1) is a federal holiday, SSI payments that would normally be dated January 1 are issued on the last business day of the previous month. So, many SSI beneficiaries effectively get their January check on Dec. 31, 2025.
January 30, 2026: In another quirk of the calendar, SSI payments for February 2026 will arrive on January 30, 2026, because February 1 falls on a weekend.
What You Should Do if Your Payment Doesn’t Arrive?
Even with a standard schedule, banking systems sometimes delay direct deposits by a day or two. If you notice your expected Social Security payment hasn’t appeared by the evening of the scheduled date, SSA guidance recommends:
Check with your bank or financial institution first before anythingmany systems credit direct deposits late on the scheduled day.
