A large number of media persons, lawyers and supporters gathered at a protest meeting at Press Club in New Delhi on Friday, in the wake of the CBI raid on NDTV demanding press freedom.

Eminent jurist Fali Nariman, author Kuldip Nayyar, former BJP leader Arun Shourie amongst others spoke in the meeting.

Faliman said, “ the manner and circumstances of the CBI raids give me reason to believe that it was an unjustified attack on press and freedom of media”.

Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai said,” Silence not an option. Today it’s the Roys, tomorrow it could be someone else. This is the moment we have to be on the right side of history.”

Defending NDTV, Arun Shourie said, “ The CBI has not been able to answer the facts put out by NDTV”. He further targeted the government calling its nature “totalitarian”.

Aroon Purie also spoke on maintaining and preserving freedom of the press and said, “ I strongly believe that freedom of media is inviolable in a democracy, any move to intimidate directly or indirectly is cause for alarm”.
