The nation woke up to the shocking news of Twinkle Sharma, a 2-year-old toddler being brutally murdered in Aligarh after her parents were unable to repay a loan of Rs 10,000. Reacting to the heinous crime, Bollywood celebs took to their social media handles to express their anger and disbelief.

In her tweet, Actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja called the tragedy heart-breaking and urged people to not make this a selfish agenda. She wrote: “What has happened to baby twinkle is. Heartbreaking and horrific. I pray for her and her family. I also urge people to not make this into a selfish agenda. This is a little girls death, not a reason to spread your hate.”

Filmmaker and social activist Ashoke Pandit compared Sonam’s message to her tweet on the Kathua rape case, where 8-year-old Asifa Bano was abducted, raped and murdered. He tweeted: “@sonamakapoor On #Asifa U questioned d values of india by tweeting : “I am Hindustan. I am ashamed. 8 years old gang raped & murdered in ‘Devi’-sthaan Temple.” And nw on #TwinkleSharma you tweet saying “I urge Ppl to not make ds into a selfish agenda.” Why this disparity ?”

This began a war of words. The actress gave a simple reply to his tweet: “Because I practice Hinduism and I believe in karma.” Following this, the filmmaker said: “I hv nt qstnd ur beliefs bt want to knw why dr’s a diffrnce in Ur reaction btwn #Asifa & #Twinkle. Why ds delayed reaction ?Why no playcards? Why nt tkng names of d accused ?Don’t U think al crimes shld b condemned wth same intensity nd similar language. #JusticeForTwinkleSharma.”

Sonam finally ended the conversation by saying: “I’m sure you have better things to do then troll me. Hope you find peace and love. Thank you for your opinions, this made my day. Ignorance is truly bliss.” Ashoke Pandit replied to the same by saying: “Raising certain issues can’t be labelled as trolling. I have found my peace & love since I was born. I will keep on questioning selective activism of activists with agendas. Wishing U good luck.”
