Congress and the Samajwadi Party have reached a consensus regarding seat sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Akhilesh Yadav’s party and other INDIA alliance partners will contest 17 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, with Congress contesting 17 Lok Sabha seats.

The Samajwadi Party of Akhilesh Yadav (SP) and other alliance partners will run for the remaining 63 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, while the Congress will contest 17 seats.

“I am delighted to tell you that it has been decided that in Uttar Pradesh the INC will contest on 17 seats and the remaining 63 seats will have candidates from the INDIA Alliance – from SP and other parties,” Congress Uttar Pradesh in-charge Avinash Pande said while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

This is the first major seat-sharing agreement between the opposition-led INDIA bloc and its partners.

After Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met with Akhilesh Yadav to break the weeks-long deadlock between the two parties, the seat-sharing in Uttar Pradesh was finalized.

The Congress will contest Lok Sabha seats in Raebareli, Amethi, Kanpur, Fatehpur Sikri, Bans Ganv, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Maharajganj, Varanasi, Amroha, Jhansi, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Deoria in accordance with the agreement.

Akhilesh Yadav confirmed that an alliance between the Samajwadi Party and Congress will take place in Uttar Pradesh following his meeting with Priyanka Gandhi.
