The income tax department conducted a raid at Rekha Modi residence in state capital Patna in connection with multi-crore Srijan scam. Rekha is a cousin of Bihar’s deputy chief minister Sushil Modi.

The raid was conducted at eight places that include Patna, Purnea, and Bhagalpur.

Srijan Mahila Vikas Sahyog Samiti limited, a nongovernment organization is accused of misappropriating and diverting government funds into its accounts between 2004 and 2014.

Rekha Modi name figures in one of the beneficiaries of the government funds transferred fraudulently in the account of the NGO between 2007 and 2017 at Bhagalpur.

The special investigating team of Bihar Police has the records that suggest that expensive diamond jewellery worth of 14 crores was brought directly from the Srijan funds and were given to bureaucrats and politicians.

One of the jewellery shop owners identified Rekha Modi as a direct beneficiary and later she was questioned for investigation.

The leader of opposition in Bihar Tejaswi Yadav recently wrote on social media platform Facebook, where he accused deputy CM and their family members involved in the scam. He also alleged Nitish Kumar government of siding with the conspirators of the scam.
